Buechner Society Scholarships

Three CedarBridge students and six primary-age Reading Clinic students were awarded 2014-15 Buechner Society of Bermuda scholarships to receive weekly tutoring throughout the school year from The Reading Clinic, an acclaimed tutoring lab for students with dyslexia and other reading differences. Specially trained tutors work one-on-one with these students to address their specific reading challenges. The students participate in a graduation later in the year.

New Accelerated Library Collection

CedarBridge Academy dramatically increased its reading programme in 2015 with a new Accelerated Reader [AR] Library that adds thousands of new volumes of titles available to students. The creation of the AR Library increases CedarBridge Academy’s AR book collection from 128 to 2,000 books. The new collection, which currently serves the Senior One students, will eventually serve all reading levels up to AR Grade 14.

Community Literacy Volunteer Programme Expansion by 2016

CedarBridge Academy’s Community Literacy Volunteer Programme will significantly increase the number of reading tutors available to students by providing a volunteer appreciation initiative and professional literacy training from its partner, The Reading Clinic. The Programme, which engages community volunteers in helping CedarBridge students achieve their reading goals, is expected to double the amount of tutor recruits through the increased support. Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and experience including members of the police service, a university fraternity and the CEO of a radio station. CedarBridge recently hosted their annual “Toast For Change” Celebration and Appreciation Lunch with volunteers and those students that they mentor.
